Atalya Laufer

Made up of drawings as well as found objects, Atalya Laufers works are at the same time both decorative and manipulative. Interested in the creative process, and in the structures of making and observing art, Laufer often uses art-related historical material, either originals or reproductions, and transforms them into ahistorical pieces, which at the same time seem rather personal. She brings together fragments of research and memories, most often biographical material from other artists, and puts them in a new context. The stories and or drawings become semi-fictionalised, malleable, at once neither fictitious nor biographical. The voice of the narrator is ambiguous, and the works act as playful commemorative spaces, in which past and present are equally represented and where the tensions between eras are readily observed.
